How to mount Lexan bodies to AFX chassis
by Chris Hale
I use staples. I mark the side of the chassis
using the staple as a guide, then I drill two 1/16th holes in the chassis
spacing them about the middle in height, then I measure the space between the
chassis and the intended body and cut two 1/16th aluminum tubing pieces put them
into the holes on both sides check for alignment, then use a small drop of 5
minute epoxy to glue each in place.
Once dry I take the staple and bend the side legs about 1/8th from the end and
in a slight V. Paint and trim the body to fit and then align it. Use a small
drill about #80 and drill two small holes ( Don't punch them out, use a sharp
pin, or x-acto knife. This will cause the body to tear out eventually. ) where
the staple will go thru into the tubes, put in the staples and again check
alignment and that pretty much will mount your lexan body.
The bend in the staple should not be too much or it will not slide into the
tubing or too light or it will fall out. The staple can be painted to match the
body. Some bodies will require the removal of the original body mounts with some
cutters.
If you have some uneveness in height or alignment, you can gently bend the
aluminum tubes to correct it. In 40+ years I have not lost a staple or body
while racing or had it stick out and hit, snag on anything.
Works for me.......... ..... Chris Hale
