FCR Racing 1/24
Back To My Roots

The Setup
OK, so I have a complete chassis purchased from my local (2 hours away) raceway. {Quickly on the soapbox: Please purchase as much as possible from your local raceway. If you choose to purchase from eBay, how difficult will it be to race on eBay when your local raceway can no longer pay the rent?}
My first challenge was how to control the car. I have 10-12 Parma controller lying around from HO racing so I chose to replace the 25 ohm resistor on a spare Parma with a 3 ohm resistor purchased from Fast Lane Speedway.
Lesson learned in replacing the resistor: The soldering of the wires to the resistor required a lot more heat than my small pencil iron could deliver. Took me a little time to figure it out but after breaking out the Weller soldering gun, the problem was solved. I toyed with the idea of getting a brake kit from the Parma website (local raceway does not carry) but decided that as heavy as the FCR cars are I would typically want as much brake as possible. So... resistor soldered and remounted in the frame, wiper button cleaned while the resistor was out, and resistor angle adjusted for smoothest action. I then tested by connecting to my home HO track and confirmed the proper action.

The series that I will be able to participate in is the FCR Truck series. I chose a Toyota truck body and since time was short I painted in the grill detail and lights and after masking the windows, shot the car with a solid color. One thing I learned from HO racing is to make your car distinct. Having a body that looks too much like the competition can result in confusion and you may be watching the wrong car come out of a pack! I know... I've done it!!
So a distinct color is the course of action. I had wanted to do the truck in white with a tribute to the late, great LeeRoy Yarbrough. But time did not allow me to create the correct decal package so I would have to change plans. A quick look through my color options and the choice was made...
